Why AI Education Matters for Children

Children grow up in a world where AI systems influence everyday decisions – from the videos suggested to them to text predictions on their smartphones. Those who understand how these systems work can use them more consciously and safely. Our goal is neither to frighten children about this technology nor to glorify it uncritically. Instead, we provide well-founded knowledge that helps them put AI in perspective: as a powerful tool created by humans that must be used responsibly.

Two Learning Modes — One Goal

KILUMI offers two learning modes that differ in language, presentation, and depth. Both teach the same knowledge — in different ways.

Why No Rigid Age Groups?

Children develop at different speeds. A 10-year-old can already be very mature, while a 13-year-old may prefer to learn through play. A strict age-based division does not do justice to individual maturity. That is why we rely on self-assessment: children can often gauge themselves well and know which mode suits them better.

No Restrictions — Free Choice

No mode is locked. There are no 'you are too young' messages. The child decides which mode feels right and can switch freely between Kids and Smart at any time.

Recommendation for Parents

Take a look at both modes and discuss with your child which mode fits best. Switching is possible at any time via the toggle in the top right corner. Our tip: simply try both — your child will quickly notice which feels better.

What Children Learn Here

In six progressive chapters, children learn what AI actually is, how it learns, what it can and cannot do, where they encounter it in everyday life, and how to use it responsibly. Interactive games complement the learning by letting children apply what they have learned directly – from pattern recognition to sorting tasks to an underwater adventure with quiz questions.

Safety and Privacy

Your child's safety is our top priority. This website collects no personal data, uses no tracking cookies, and does not embed any external services such as Google Fonts or analytics tools. Learning progress is stored exclusively locally in your child's browser. The AI chat is protected by comprehensive content filters and designed for child-appropriate communication. Detailed information can be found in our privacy policy.

AI Safety for Children

Our AI Safety section teaches children about the most important dangers when using AI. 7 topics — from deepfakes to cyberbullying to phishing — are explained in an age-appropriate way in both learning modes (Kids and Smart). An interactive detective test checks their knowledge and rewards them with a detective badge. No personal data is collected — quiz results are stored exclusively in the browser locally.

Structure of Learning Units

The six chapters build on each other and are unlocked by a quiz at the end of each chapter. This motivates children and ensures the content has been understood before new topics are explored.

Anonymous Community Counters

On the homepage, we show how many children have completed the quiz or earned badges. These numbers are completely anonymous — only total counters are stored, no individual data. The optional age group selection at the start serves exclusively for anonymous statistics to improve our content.

Here you can reset all learning progress. All collected stars and badges will be lost and the learning mode selection will be shown again.
